WHAT CAN YOU DO WHEN

YOU ARE ALREADY UNEQUALLY YOKED?

THE UNITING OF A MAN AND WOMAN AS ONE FLESH was the first biblical covenant and commandment given by God in the garden to Adam and Eve: “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it’” (Gen. 1:28). The marital covenant is one of the greatest physical, emotional, and spiritual blessings, especially when you find that one person whom God designed specifically to fit you. However, at times people marry and form marital bonds before their conversion, or one of the two partners—the wife or the husband—is not in covenant with Christ. This unequal balance has been a source of strife and division in homes from the beginning of the Christian faith. What can a dedicated Christian do when he or she is yoked with someone who is a firm unbeliever?

Paul wrote:

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?
